I'm on a roll with these blog posts... now that I've found my rhythm, I am sure I can maintain this level of investment.
Since my most recent post, I have had a full schedule of road racing, which started with the Austin Half in February, and ended with the Cleveland Marathon in May. Austin was a tough course, but based on crazy runner math, my 1:18 was pretty good. Austin is a fun place for just about everything, except running. I'd do it again, but this course was ridiculous. Ok, the first half was all uphill, up Congress... then the second 5 miles or so were downhill to make up for it. Then there was a ridiculous hill somewhere around 11 or 12 that just made me laugh. On a positive note, I did beat Lance, and had a sprint to the finish with some poor Canadian that had a bad race only to be outkicked by me, an average runner. Watching the finish video, you would think we were gunning for the win.
Then came the marathons. Shamrock, the local race, lived up to it's expectations of being flat and fast. I didn't have anyone to run with, but did end up negative splitting which is always a bonus. Looking back, I maybe could have gone out faster and risked more, but then it was early in the season. Next came Boston in April, with amazing conditions and less than amazing time. Then the wheels fell off in Cleveland. In the first mile, my calves were saying that a marathon was a terrible idea. I stuck it out, and limped in with something like a 6:30 average. Cleveland did not rock.
In the time since, I've given up on training for the time being, and have just been running. The heat has been ridiculous, but I know the splits/perceived effort will come back to normal in the fall.
Guess that's it for now, I know the blog was supposed to be about running, food, beer, and unicorns... but I just don't have alot to say about unicorns right now. I am looking forward to a dos equis grande and some fajitas later though.
