I'm on a roll with these blog posts... now that I've found my rhythm, I am sure I can maintain this level of investment.
Since my most recent post, I have had a full schedule of road racing, which started with the Austin Half in February, and ended with the Cleveland Marathon in May. Austin was a tough course, but based on crazy runner math, my 1:18 was pretty good. Austin is a fun place for just about everything, except running. I'd do it again, but this course was ridiculous. Ok, the first half was all uphill, up Congress... then the second 5 miles or so were downhill to make up for it. Then there was a ridiculous hill somewhere around 11 or 12 that just made me laugh. On a positive note, I did beat Lance, and had a sprint to the finish with some poor Canadian that had a bad race only to be outkicked by me, an average runner. Watching the finish video, you would think we were gunning for the win.
Then came the marathons. Shamrock, the local race, lived up to it's expectations of being flat and fast. I didn't have anyone to run with, but did end up negative splitting which is always a bonus. Looking back, I maybe could have gone out faster and risked more, but then it was early in the season. Next came Boston in April, with amazing conditions and less than amazing time. Then the wheels fell off in Cleveland. In the first mile, my calves were saying that a marathon was a terrible idea. I stuck it out, and limped in with something like a 6:30 average. Cleveland did not rock.
In the time since, I've given up on training for the time being, and have just been running. The heat has been ridiculous, but I know the splits/perceived effort will come back to normal in the fall.
Guess that's it for now, I know the blog was supposed to be about running, food, beer, and unicorns... but I just don't have alot to say about unicorns right now. I am looking forward to a dos equis grande and some fajitas later though.
regulators... mount up,

Saturday Long Run
Sooo marathon madness kicked off yesterday with my first 20 mile long run. It didn't go so well. 20 turned to 18 and I was happy to get that. I hate to toss blame around, but I felt sick from the start, and I think my iron pills are the culprit.
On a completely related note, do you really think that the amish make those heat surge fireplaces? And if they're electric, don't the amish have issues with that? I'm pretty sure this infomercial is a scam. I'll not contribute to their shenanigans.

How do I begin?
In medias res... because that's how I roll. After a busy day at work of looking online for funny things to do with a banana, I'm headed to the Y for an hour of fun and games on the treadmill. Why the treadmill today? Glad you asked! Because once I set that timer, I'm not going to increase it, and there's only so much damage I can do to my legs in an hour. Also, I like to make the trainers nervous that I'm going to overheat another one of their machines. I prefer to feign ignorance when this happens.
